Fondagate Part Deux

Posted 29 Jul 2009

Have a look at what Brand Republic had to say about Fondagate today.

Below you can have a read of our open letter to Jane Fonda - we would love to give her another quality design for her site, but this time tailor made - so back us with your comments and hopefully we can make it happen!

Dear Jane,

I’m sure you’ve never heard of us, but we’ve sure heard of you.  We’re Delete - a digital marketing agency based in London, England.

We refer you to our blog, (http://tinyurl.com/mno565) and twitter, where we have been discussing the striking similarities between your own website, launched in February 2009 and our site, launched Nov 2008.

Also ….and this is quite funny…. our logo had accidentally been left on the site!  Funnily enough it was removed soon after we spotted and screen grabbed it.

Firstly Jane, we are sure you had no knowledge of this and secondly we are wholly flattered that you liked our design so much you chose it to represent you on your site.

Ordinarily we fight hard to protect our intellectual property, but in this case we may be prepared to make an exception.  We only want one thing - to get a credit for all of our hard work.  When an agency like us designs our own website it’s like pulling teeth – the fights, the drama, the opinion – it was a tough process and certainly no Nine to Five.

If you can agree to stick a small Delete logo at the bottom of your homepage and a link back to our site and keep both the logo and link there for the lifetime of the site, we would be happy to give you a non-exclusive license to use the designs and any of the code that is the subject of this complaint in perpetuity. You can’t ask for fairer than that.

However, your site doesn’t need to be a second hand copy. We would be happy to design an original for you and make our connection more than just fleeting. We can deliver a great result with minimal effort from you or your team and you’ve already sampled the talent of our design team so you know what you’re getting.

It would be great if you could get back to me on this and let me know what you think.

Until then, unfortunately we need to reserve all of our rights in case we can’t resolve this amicably between ourselves – but I’m sure we can!

Thanks Jane.

All the best,

Geoff Devereux
Managing Director

I think you've been very fair. Either she lets you design her a new site or admits you designed the old one. Or you could ask for a signed Barbarella bikini...

Any progress/response on this? I'm fascinated to see how it resolves!

That site really doesn't look that much like Delete.
I could look through CSS galleries and find at least 5 sites launched before Delete which look more like Delete's site than Jane Fonda's.

I am sure Jane Fonda has no idea and part any off this. Some poor lonely webdesigner just porrowed Your template and gets lot off fame to You.. You must kindly thank him/ her.
